Nagasaki Blokkade

Bike Tour: Ypres - Kleine Brogel, Summer 2006

From the 31st of July to the 10th August 2006 For Mother Earth is hosting a youth exchange in Belgium to bring together active young people from 15 European countries.
The programme is focussed on nuclear weapons and disarmament and intends to place a strong emphasis on building links within Europe, as the young people participating in the exchange will bring and share concrete experiences from their countries.

The participants will be able to take part in a 150 km bicycle tour, an official visit to NATO, discussions, practical trainings, etc.
They will also visit some Belgium mayors, members of the campaign "Mayors for Peace".
As part of this exchange, For Mother Earth is organising commemorations and nonviolent actions to mark the 61st anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (6th and 9th August).
We hope that the local community and Belgian activists will take part in these events!

The three main moments when members of the public can join in:

  • Hiroshima commemoration on the morning of August 6th in Brussels (NATO headquarters);
  • Nagasaki commemoration on the morning of 9th August in NATO nuclear weapon base Kleine Brogel (Limburg);
  • Nagasaki commemoration on the evening of 9th August in Ghent.

    More information will be available soon on the website.
