Working Group Indigenous Peoples' Issues

Working Group on Indigenous Peoples' Issues:
Mission statement

The Working Group on Indigenous Peoples’ Issues of Friends of the Earth Flanders/Brussels is committed to promoting the rights of Indigenous Peoples world-wide, though we often choose specific cases, peoples, and areas to focus in on with more detail. We focus on creating and sustaining contact with Indigenous Peoples, finding ways to help them fight injustice, and in turn gaining knowledge on Native spirituality and their close connection to the Earth.

The Working Group’s mission is to bring Indigenous Issues and Injustices into the public eye, in order educate people on how Natives’ rights are being violated in every corner of the world, and provide insight on what they can do to help improve the situation.

The working group acts in a direct democratic way both as a team and independently, and goes into action upon request of the indigenous peoples themselves, using the following tactics:

  petitions;

  letter writing campaigning;

  articles in the magazine Bulletin Friends of the Earth;

  education at schools and educational centers;

  information on stands;

  political lobbying;

  cultural activities, with indigenous people witnessing on the situation;

  financial, logistic and moral support to and the follow up of projects.
