About Lakenheath Action GroupLAG is committed to nonviolence, openness and accountability. If you want more information, to be involved, or to talk about our work, please contact us. Introduction We believe that nuclear weapons are wrong in all circumstances. But we feel an even greater injustice because the weapons deployed at Lakenheath are American, not British, so we have no possible democratic control over how or when the would be used. The U.S.A. is the only nation ever to have used such weapons in anger, slaughtering 200,000 civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The present situation in ominous: the U.S.A. is governed by an unelected president who has shown his willingness to wage war as a first resort and has displayed his contempt for the rule of law, "unsigning" the Rome statute for an International Criminal Court, disregarding the Kyoto protocols and destroying the ABM treaty, to give but a few examples. His threats to use nuclear weapons in upcoming conflicts put us all in grave danger- they are threats are so terrible that we must take them seriously and, more importantly, take action against them. Furthermore, Lakenheath has been intimately involved in attacks on Iraq over the last 12 years. Planes from the 48th fighter wing of the U.S.A.F., based at Lakenheath, attacked Iraq in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1999 and again in 2003. (more about Lakenheath air base...) Why we protest
"Individuals have international duties which transcend the national obligations of obedience ... Therefore [individual citizens] have the duty to violate domestic laws to prevent crimes against peace and humanity from occurring" Get involved
We are looking for help in providing accommodation for activists who are appearing in court in Mildenhall, Bury St. Edmunds or Sudbury. This would normally be for just one night. Please let us know if you can help! (our upcoming events...)
