Bush is Not Welcome in Brussels

www.bushwanted.org

To mark the visit of George W. Bush to Brussels in February 2005, peace, environmental and human rights organisations will be organising nonviolent protests against the criminal unilateral policies of the US President. President Bush has shown during his first term in office that he represents the single greatest threat to humanity.

In many areas of policy, Bush has chosen a unilateral direction, with the International Criminal Court, the Kyoto Protocol and the war in Iraq as the most obvious examples. President Bush is coming to Brussels in order to rebuild the links with the EU and NATO. This is not an option as along as the United States continues it's current policies. We do not want Europe to be involved in this criminal activity!

On many levels, United States policy represents a great danger to the planet:

  • Disarmament (development of new nuclear weapons; Iraq; Landmine treaty; new nuclear tests;...)
  • Human Rights (International Criminal Court; torture in prisons; attacks on civil rights in the United States, ...)
  • Environment (Kyoto Protocol; WTO dispute on use of GMO's, ...)

Protests are planned on Monday 21st February at 5pm in front of the United States embassy in Brussels. During the visit, on Tuesday 22nd February, a colourful protest will take place in Brussels. The time and location will be announced later. A number of groups continue to call for an economic boycott of selected US products in opposition to Bush's policies.

The following organisations are taking the initiative in calling for these protests: For Mother Earth, Vrede vzw, Bond Beter Leefmilieu, Greenpeace, Stop USA, CNAPD and Forum voor Vredesactie. They expect many more organisations to join the call for nonviolent protests in the coming months.

A new website has been launched to spread information about the protests:
