Eight held at Faslane

EIGHT campaigners were arrested during a protest at the Faslane nuclear submarine base yesterday.

They were among 25 protesters from Friends of the Earth Flanders and Brussels who were staging the demo as part of a year-long blockade.

Those arrested included people from Belgium, Germany, Finland, Portugal and the Netherlands.

Faslane is host to the UK's submarine-based Trident nuclear weapons system. Tony Blair announced plans last year to replace it with an upgraded version at a cost of up to £20billion.
